Sarah Harmer Lyrics

Harmer intones in the same slow-down trailer park fashion as Lucinda Williams, and with a voice this good, there's no reason in the world to hurry. While on leave from her band Weeping Tile, Harmer recorded a solo album (Songs for Clem) in 1998. Nothing more than a handmade Christmas gift for her father, the tapes got into the right hands, and Harmer was encouraged to release a follow-up. You Were Here arrived shortly thereafter. A rustic, watercolor landscape of sleepwalking guitars and light-jazz swoons, the record is a study in homespun simplicity and grace. Harmer's intimate lyrics steer clear of worn-out Singer-Songwriter tropes, offering fresh insights into what connects people to the land and how this effects their connections with each other. There's just enough earthy grit and determination in Harmer's voice to endear her to the folk community, but there's also the right amount of breathy sensuality to keep the windows of your imagination thoroughly steamed up.

Sarah Harmer Song Lyric:

The Hideout

Look at that green
Out through the screen
After a quick rain came
So fast that
There wasn't time
To roll up the windows
And pull the clothes
Down off the line
But i dont' care, it was so dry
The grass is happy
And I think "So I am"
Cause I'm through
Thinking about you

For now i'm out at the hideout
Far enought outside of town
You come, you can stay
If there's something you need
To get away from

Look at the day dropping away
Hear the traffic on pass along
A distant side road down the way
I think that dust, has settled on me
But I don't care, it was so calm
I knew I wouldn't stay forever
I knew I'd get some things together
And move on

I just thought of you
And what you said
Laid out on the pullout
Did you forget?
You said you wouldn't forget
