One major exception is the Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love" which still sounds as forward-thinking retro as it did in 1981. A celebration of classic soul, Funk, and reggae, the tune laid the blueprint for the Tom Tom Club's innocent and bright-eyed dance club sound. This may have started out as a side project for the Talking Heads rhythm section, but since then Tom Tom Club has turned into a regular gig for Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz. So far they haven't recaptured the singular brilliance of "Genius of Love" but The Good, The Bad and the Funky (2000) is their most focused, slapdash tour of dance music yet.
